How to Easily Create a Lead Magnet Workflow Using Go HighLevel

Hey there, fabulous entrepreneurs! If you’re looking to create a simple and effective workflow for your lead magnet, you’ve come to the right place. In this post, I’m going to walk you through how to set up a basic workflow using Go HighLevel (GHL) to build your email list and nurture leads. This process is super easy, and if you follow along, you’ll have your workflow set up in no time! I’ll be using my "Affiliate Marketing Guide for Beginners" as an example.

First off, let me tell you why this matters. When someone opts in to receive your freebie, you want to have a system in place to not only deliver the content but also build a relationship with that lead. A well-designed workflow will automate that process, giving you more time to focus on growing your business while the tech handles the nurturing for you!

Let’s dive into the steps to get your workflow up and running!

Step 1: Start with a Workflow in Go HighLevel

First things first, head over to Go HighLevel and create a workflow. GHL is amazing for this because it provides you with all the tools to automate the process from start to finish. If you're not yet familiar with the platform, no worries! You can check out Go HighLevel here and learn more about it.

In GHL, you can either start from scratch or use one of their many templates. If you’re a beginner, feel free to browse through their template "recipes" which can be tailored to your needs. For instance, if someone comments on a Facebook post, there’s a template that triggers an email or text message. The possibilities are endless.

For my example, I’ll be working from scratch because I like full customization, but you can choose what works best for you!

Step 2: Name Your Workflow & Add a Trigger

Once you’ve created your workflow, the first thing you want to do is name it. This helps keep everything organized. In my case, I named mine "Affiliate Marketing Freebie Workflow" because that’s what this workflow is tied to. Naming it clearly will help you track it later on when you're handling multiple campaigns.

Now, onto the trigger. A trigger is what starts your workflow. In this case, it’s when someone opts in for the freebie—my "Affiliate Marketing Guide for Beginners." This is where the magic begins! As soon as someone signs up, the workflow gets triggered, and the automation starts running.

Step 3: Add Your First Action - Deliver the Freebie

Now that your trigger is set, it’s time to add your first action. What do you want to happen when someone opts in? In this case, we’re going to send an email to deliver the freebie.

Go HighLevel makes this super simple. Just click the "+" button to add a step, and select “Send Email.” Then, you can customize the email to thank your new subscriber and include a link to download the lead magnet. Be sure to:

  • Add their name for personalization. (Hi [First Name]!)

  • Include a clear call-to-action to download the freebie.

  • Keep the email short, sweet, and to the point.

For example, in my "Affiliate Marketing Guide for Beginners" workflow, I let them know how excited I am that they grabbed the freebie and that they’ll be learning the basics of affiliate marketing.

Step 4: Add a Wait Step

After the freebie has been delivered, you want to space out your communications. A common mistake is bombarding new leads with too many emails too fast. Instead, let’s give them a little breathing room by adding a wait step.

In GHL, you can set how long to wait before sending the next email. I like to wait at least one day between emails. This keeps the relationship building gradually. You can adjust the wait time depending on your strategy. Some workflows wait a few hours, others a few days. It’s all about finding what works best for your audience and what your goals are.

Step 5: Add Follow-Up Emails

Here’s where the real magic happens! Once the freebie has been delivered and you’ve given them some time, it’s time to send a follow-up email. The key here is to continue adding value.

For example, in my affiliate marketing guide workflow, I send them a follow-up email that says something like, "Now that you’ve got the guide, let’s dive into how affiliate marketing works." I provide a little more insight and invite them to engage with additional content or training.

Use the follow-up emails to:

  • Build rapport – Show them that you’re a valuable resource.

  • Educate them – Give more free content, advice, or tips.

  • Promote your offers – This is a great time to introduce them to your products or services (but don’t be too pushy).

You can use Go HighLevel's templates or create your own custom emails. I personally like to customize each email to reflect my brand voice and message.

Step 6: Nurturing Sequence

After your initial emails, set up a nurturing sequence. This is a series of emails designed to continue providing value while subtly introducing them to your paid offers. Ideally, you want to keep these nurturing emails going for about 7 to 10 days. This timeframe is perfect for warming up your leads without overwhelming them.

In this sequence, you can:

  • Introduce yourself and your story – People connect with people, not just brands. Let them know why you do what you do.

  • Offer additional resources – Link to blog posts, videos, or other freebies.

  • Subtly mention paid services – After a few value-driven emails, you can start mentioning your paid offers. Just remember, these should be woven in naturally.

Step 7: Automate and Scale

Once you’ve completed your basic workflow, the final step is to scale your system. This means continuously optimizing your workflow and adding more advanced automations as your business grows. For example, you can add triggers based on specific actions—like if someone clicks on a link or opens certain emails.

The best part about automating your lead magnet workflow is that it runs on autopilot, allowing you to generate leads, build relationships, and convert sales without having to manually follow up every single time.
